The NEW Roaring Twenties

The NEW Roaring Twenties

A Movement for Change, Freedom, and Collective Prosperity

The Roaring Twenties were a time of dramatic cultural, social, and economic upheaval. It was a decade marked by dramatic change—the end of the First World War, the rise of jazz, the proliferation of new technologies, and the emergence of new freedoms. Women gained the right to vote, the stock market boomed, and people danced like there was no tomorrow. But as much as it was a time of exuberance and celebration, it was also a period fraught with inequality, political discord, and the effects of unchecked capitalism.

As we enter the New Roaring Twenties, we find ourselves at a similar crossroads in history. We are living in a time where political and social divides seem more pronounced than ever before. The world is changing rapidly, but in many ways, we are facing similar struggles—inequality, social unrest, and a clash between the individual and the collective good.

Much like the original twenties, today’s world is characterized by technological advances, a shift toward new forms of expression, and a search for personal freedom. Yet, we are also witnessing the dangerous consequences of unchecked individualism, excessive profit-driven capitalism, and political discord that threatens our collective well-being.

In the 1920s, Prohibition gave rise to underground movements and the unchecked power of monopolies led to the Great Depression. Today, we are seeing movements to repeal or modify important policies that were put in place to curb the excesses of the past century. Our economic systems continue to favor the few over the many, and political strife seems to threaten the fabric of unity and progress.

But just like in the original twenties, there is an opportunity here—an opportunity for change, transformation, and the birth of a new era. We have the chance to create something better, a future where we reject the extremes of individualism and profit-driven motives and instead embrace a new vision—a vision of collective prosperity, freedom, and responsibility.

The New Roaring Twenties is not just a celebration of the past, but a movement that builds on the lessons learned, acknowledging the struggles and challenges of the original decade while pushing forward toward a brighter future. We are the generation that can usher in a new era of social justice, environmental sustainability, and equitable opportunity for all.

Here’s what the New Roaring Twenties can look like:

  • Reclaiming Collective Power: Just as the first Roaring Twenties saw a movement toward women’s rights, the New Roaring Twenties should see a movement for all marginalized communities—racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, economic justice, and environmental activism. It's time to build an inclusive society where we all thrive together.
  • Challenging Profit-Driven Capitalism: The past century has seen the consequences of capitalism run rampant. We are seeing the impacts of environmental degradation, wealth inequality, and social unrest as a result. The New Roaring Twenties must be about rethinking our economic systems—placing value on people, sustainability, and community over excessive profit. We can create businesses that are both successful and socially responsible.
  • Dancing into the Future with Purpose: Just like jazz and swing music brought people together in the 1920s, the arts—dance, music, literature, theater—should be used as powerful tools for expression, connection, and social change. Let’s create a cultural renaissance that brings people together, celebrates diversity, and fosters a sense of belonging.
  • Facing Political Discord with Unity and Action: The original twenties were marked by political unrest, strikes, and the rise of new ideologies. Similarly, we face increasing polarization today. But instead of retreating into division, we must rise together—building a coalition of the willing, the informed, and the brave who will push for systemic change. We can unite across party lines, across race and class, to build a world where everyone has a voice and a place.
  • Embracing Technology with Responsibility: The first Roaring Twenties saw the birth of modern technologies—from the radio to the automobile—that transformed the way people lived. The New Roaring Twenties are no different, with technologies like AI, renewable energy, and virtual reality offering new opportunities to enhance our lives. But we must use these tools responsibly, ensuring they serve the collective good and don’t exacerbate the inequalities of the past.

The Call to Action:

The original Roaring Twenties gave birth to a new era of cultural and societal transformation. In the New Roaring Twenties, we must not only celebrate freedom and joy but also ensure that this celebration is inclusive and transformative for everyone. It’s time to move past the divisions, the extremes, and the old systems that no longer serve us.

We can choose to build a world based on equity, sustainability, and collective prosperity. We can choose to reshape our economy, our politics, and our culture in a way that uplifts all people, not just the few. This is our moment. It’s time to rise and take the baton from those who fought for freedom and opportunity in the past and run with it toward a new, better world.

Let’s make this the New Roaring Twenties—a time of bold change, purpose, and progress for all.
