Canadian air passengers have new rights starting this week when it comes to things like overbooking, lost luggage and delays. The new rules — which were heavily opposed by industry players as well as some consumer advocates — mean Canadian airlines will have to compensate travellers up to $2,400 if they are bumped from an overbooked flight, or $2,100 for lost or damaged luggage. Some airlines say they will face hefty costs without proof of damages and claim the regulations violate international standards. Others say the rules don't go far enough. ? Ready, set, go! Amazon’s Prime Day starts today and continues through Tuesday, bringing a whole new meaning to retail wars, as Walmart becomes the latest rival to try to get in on the mid-summer online-shopping bonanza. This year marks Amazon's fifth year of Prime Day, and according to Salesforce's Rob Garf, the shopping event has prompted "rising shifts" for the entire month of July. Target and eBay have also announced sales of their own. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Huawei Technologies is set to fire hundreds of employees as its continued blacklisting by the U.S. takes a toll on the Chinese company, reports The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources. The redundancies are expected to hit employees who work at the company’s subsidiary research labs in Texas, California and Washington state, with some employees being given the option to return to China and continue their work there, per the Journal. The U.S. says Huawei poses a national security risk to the country, something the Chinese giant denies. ? Here’s what people are saying.

American Airlines and United Airlines extended their grounding of Boeing 737 Max planes until early November. It's the latest indication the type of jet — following two recent crashes — may not return to the air for commercial service in 2019. American Airlines Group will keep the planes grounded through Nov. 2, according to Bloomberg, which will result in the cancellation of roughly 115 daily flights. Similarly, United Airlines Holdings said it will ground the planes through Nov. 3, resulting in the cancellation of 8,200 flights from July onward. ? Here’s what people are saying.

The CEO of America's bestselling e-cigarette, Juul Labs, has a message for parents: “I’m sorry.Federal data shows nearly 21% of high school students vaped last year, prompting the Food and Drug Administration to declare teen vaping an "epidemic." Juul has attempted to dissuade teen use of its products by shutting down its social media accounts and nixing fruity flavors, but that hasn’t stopped the criticism. ? Here’s what people are saying.

Idea of the Day: Experience has value, says Stanley Bergman, CEO of Henry Schein. Just like with tennis, anyone can hit a ball but very few can hit it like a pro.

“When you take that new job, above all, do this first: Listen, observe, and learn. Find an experienced mentor who can show you where and how to hit the ball.”

There are different ways of protecting passenger rights..Canada has currently among the highest airfares in the world as well an almost monopolistic airline industry, especially now if Air Canada is allowed to purchase Air Transat. That is what Trudeau and Garneau needed to fix to bring competition and lower airfares for the Canadian consumer. Instead what they now announced will increase costs to the airlines, which will be passed on as even higher fares because there is insufficient competition. Another Trudeau mess in the making.
