New Research in Prevention Education for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
The Center for Violence Prevention Research
More Science. Less Violence.
The Center has become a national leader in the field of child abuse prevention for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The journal?Child Maltreatment?has just?published our latest study on school-based prevention education?for children with IDD. In this study, we conducted a rigorous review of all prevention education programs for IDD across the globe. We identified promising programs that consider both best practices for violence prevention and for special education. We also identified a number of gaps in this field including the significant lack of programs and supporting evidence of their efficacy.
If you're interested in the full report, contact us and we're happy to share. In addition, all of our research is summarized in one-page briefs available for?free download?on our site.
This study continues our series on prevention education which began with two other studies published in?the top-ranked journal?Child Abuse and Neglect.?Read More...
This work was then featured on the?One in Ten?podcast. In this episode,?Center Executive Director Dr. Melissa Bright discusses the significant lack of prevention resources - and supporting research - available for youth with IDD and their families.
One in Ten is powered by the?National Children’s Alliance (NCA)?and is a go-to resource for the latest resources on ending child abuse.
We're adding more studies each day to identify what exists, what works, and what needs work in the field of prevention education for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Stay tuned for our latest findings!
