New Relationships

I have worked across multiple industries. Have seen some cycles over the last few years. Some from close quarters, some from passive observations. But i am going to resist the temptation to talk about all of them.

I want to talk about what i am seeing as a consumer in all those industries that i have NEVER worked in. Don't have any gyan on it. Don't have any major perspective on it. Attempt is to think clearly and see if i can make any sense. Also want to see it in the people -relationship context. Trying to keep it simple.

So lets try

  1. Now Married - We are now married to disinfecting. From Floor, tables, gadgets, food, furniture, vegetables etc. Anything that can be disinfected, will be disinfected. This whirlwind affair with cleaning will now a full blown obsession and mostly likely end up in Marriage. It will now be a permanent part of our life.
  2. On-Off-On status - Pre Covid, Food Ordering was beginning to get huge. Had great traction and momentum backing it. Covid hit it where it hurts. But i think they will be back big time. Swiggy / Zomato will come back to rule.
  3. Divorced - Consumers are now divorced from the travel business. Fear and paranoia will be front and centre. Within the country travel will come back first before one takes the flight abroad.
  4. One night stand - FMCG industry has discovered last mile delivery in another avatar. Called Uber, Swiggy, Scootsie etc. Currently this is a one-night stand (read Covid) between liked minded partners. Will it survive and end up in stable relationship. I don't know. You tell me.
  5. Committed Long Distance Relationship - This will be with Banking. With the Yes Bank episode in context, people will move to the bigger banks, larger trust accounts such as HDFC Bank, Kotak and SBI. Rest will have to fight to keep the customers within their fold. Why long distance you may ask, i don't see people rushing to the banks to take loans and credit cards soon.
  6. Blind Date will be with the Ed-tech Industry. I have no clue when i go on a blind date. Will i like her, will we click? A lot of first timers are going to go out on a blind date with ed-tech. Hope they like each other.
  7. Seeing other people as well - This is the OTT universe. I am young, not married and i can see many people at one go. Same with OTT. No loyalty with any one OTT. More the merrier.

Nice one Samir Vora I would hazard a guess that Education changes will be more marriage than blind date:) Seems like learning outcomes and access to high quality teaching will spur adoption even post Covid.
