New reclaimed?
Being the filler in of all boxes when it comes to forms, social media etc. I recently came across "newsletter" as part of LinkedIn and just had to jump on the pilot scheme.
So here I am filling in the boxes, adding titles and pictures.. then realizing.. have I got something to say that's worth reading?
Reclaimed products were the backbone of sales when I joined CED Stone Group. Reclaimed setts, flags and kerbs were sorted and stacked then sold around the country and sometimes exported abroad even to the USA, Germany and beyond.
Over time sales of reclaimed products have been passed by new stone, Indian sandstone and Chinese granite, Brazilian slate, Italian porphyry to name but a few. These paving's have been used extensively within the domestic marketplace and in the case of some, hugely within the commercial marketplace. We now see these products been reclaimed from streetscapes after twenty years in some cases.
My post above touched slightly on the matter, finding homes for "end of line".
The stone after twenty years is fit for purpose, slightly dirty.. perhaps even slightly chipped. Reclaimed stone of two hundred years is the same but worn by the passage of steel wheels, and still fit for purpose.
One is admired for it's history.. its worn surface, the other is shunned.. dirty new flags and setts, just not old enough?
Perhaps it's a change of mindset or building connections across the construction industry to find homes for newly reclaimed materials that have had a short but useful lifespan?
Lots to think about.
