New Projects & Design Competition planned for Tempelhof Feld

Thank you for following World Landscape Architecture. In this week's update, we showcase some residential projects, including some 2024 WLA Award winners, and look at a possible planned competition for Tempelhof Feld.


A dialogue begins on the future of Tempelhofer Feld

The Berlin government initiated a public consultation process in July to discuss the future of Tempelhofer Feld, which was the former Tempelhof airport and became a park in 2010. The consultation will include workshops to formulate recommendations, which will then be considered in an upcoming international ideas competition (Ideenwettbewerb) scheduled to start in November 2024. New Report Reveals How to Transform Streets into Safer, Healthier Spaces

A new report published by the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington and authored by LDA Design finds that climate resilience and social equity are driving best practice in the redesign of streets and highways, making them safer and healthier. The High Park project is about repurposing abandoned office buildings and healing the urban fabric. For a long time, the building was seen as the ugly polluter of the Arnhem skyline. High Park takes down both the physical and mental barriers that shaped this place. The plan opens up the entire site, visually and physically, by demolishing almost all the outbuildings and adding an undulated park.
