New prints
Been working on a new screen print this last week, which is a process i thoroughly love. Making variations in the colour schemes is so fun... Which colours appeal to you most? And why?
It's an on going journey of exploration for me, taking my hand made work through a whole load of digital separations and working out which parts adhere to which layer. And that's before I even get them exposed onto the screens. Once they are ready for printing ( anywhere between 6 and 11 layers) then the fun begins working out a colour theme, mixing up the ink medium, and then making the images.
My studio is quite small, so i tend to work in small numbers of prints to build up the larger series.
I find the focus that the process requires is a deep journey into my mindfulness practice, which creates a very tangible link between the predominant themes of my work and the practice itself.
Meditative art has long been a tradition throughout the world from the earliest cave paintings to the great cathedrals in the west and zen inspired masters of the east, and as I explore the traditions and work systematically towards my own interpretations, I feel both inspired and humbled to step onto the path of this sacred art.
I suppose in some ways it's my own Journey to the East; an offering born in the art of the celts and the islamic traditions, with a wee hint of the mystical for the mundane world.
