Faced with the crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world population and which has demanded from the heads of Governments, the taking of humanist attitudes aiming at the well-being of people, in recent weeks the world has followed the American elections through the media, whose the result always has a major impact on the world economy, and on diplomatic relations.
Analysts believe that the conduct of the pandemic crisis generated by Covid-19 was certainly one of the reasons that led the then American President Trump not to be re-elected. He himself publicly admitted to having minimized the problem, even though he knew the seriousness of the situation, claiming that he did not want to cause panic in the population.
The world watched Joe Biden's victory, just as, in his first speech, he defended science, thanked the support of the black community, of women, and said that America now lives in the “time of Healing”, and speaks of strength of the union of the Americans, and yet, to combat a bigger problem that affects the whole planet, the pandemic. The great challenge will undoubtedly be to balance the economy and the Covid-19 pandemic, which continues to be a challenge to everyone, with a major recovery in the American territory and also in European countries. On the US government transition website, it shows that scientists and experts will determine how to increase the use of masks and tests, as well as plan the distribution of a vaccine once it is approved. On the website, it shows that, in addition to Covid-19, the recovery of the economy, the fight against systemic racism and the preservation of the environment, are topics that should receive more attention at the beginning of the new administration.
There is also a promise to bring the United States back to the Paris Agreement, a joint effort by 195 countries to combat climate change, hitherto snubbed by some government officials. The Agreement was approved to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in the context of sustainable development, and the commitment is made to contain the increase in the global average temperature. There is an expectation that the environmental theme will be focused on measures that effectively produce advances in multilateral negotiations on international trade between countries, that is, we expect a more effective stance between countries in the commitment to environmental preservation goals. Brazil had better take care of the preservation of the Amazon.
Neglecting science and neglecting the environment does not seem to contribute to electing governments. Life is more important than anything, we must be aware and preserve it, taking care of ourselves and our neighbor. We hope and hope that the policies of caring for people have good results, and that this attitude can inspire other government officials, sensitize those who try to deny science, disdain the guidelines of health measures, or that tie the desire to power over lives, going against history. Insisting on going against health is to go against science, against life, and without lives there is no economy. There is no country. Finally, let the current government of Brazil be sensitized and reflect on the above.
