A new perspective

I found the attached article an interesting new perspective on a very difficult issue.

I appreciate that people have varying views on the core matter of what is referred to as the refugee crisis, but I thought the way it was framed in this article helps to rationalise the numbers involved.

Effectively, the number of refugees coming in equates to 0.2% of the EU population.  This hardly constitutes a 'deluge' and indicates that the solution is one of burden-sharing by all EU states rather than the erection of fences or walls.

I come from a traditionally emigrant country and I am glad that whilst challenges were faced by previous Irish emigrants, they were not of the institutional enormity being faced by Syrians today.

Surely we can do more and we could at least begin by caring.
