?? A New Perspective on Alloy Design of Ni-Base Single-Crystal Superalloys for Turbine Blades ??

We are pleased to share our latest review, published in Materials Transactions, which provides an in-depth exploration of Ni-base single-crystal superalloys, specifically designed for turbine blades in aircraft engines. This work emphasizes the critical role of elastic misfit in raft structure formation and its application to advanced alloy design. By building upon decades of research, we offer novel insights into the material parameters that drive superalloy performance in demanding aerospace environments.

In this review, we:

  • Detail the influence of raft structure formation on creep properties, particularly under high-temperature, low-stress conditions typical in turbine blades.
  • Identify key material parameters that affect alloy design, with a focus on deformation and microstructural transition mechanisms.
  • Introduce a new alloy design approach, integrating elastic misfit with the traditionally emphasized lattice misfit, to achieve fine control over raft structure perfection and enhance creep properties.

By synthesizing decades of research with emerging insights, this review opens new avenues for refining superalloy properties, providing valuable guidance for future alloy design strategies in turbine blade applications. We believe this work will inspire further exploration and innovation across the field and related areas of materials science.
