New Opportunities Through Demonetization Disruption

Despite voting for BJP (in the last general elections) and experiencing the world of possibilities that Shri Narendra Modi created in Gujarat, I am no die-hard fan of Modi ji. Actually, I should say 'was'. Schemes like Digital India, Make-In-India, and Skill-India, sounded synonymous with the 'Incredible-India' campaign. I wondered, how would such schemes impact educated Indians like me, who have the zeal and temperament to make a difference to the country; but get comprehensively sidelined by the endowed class. The demonetization has changed this status quo. All of a sudden, people like me have opportunities and the scope of making a difference to the society!
In terms of classical innovation theories, demonetization is a mega disruption. It will create both winners and losers. Unfortunately, media continues to emphasize on the losers. Possibly, because they are unable to trace the winners and those with potential to make the difference remain quiet. However, the silence should not be misconstrued as inaction. The single step of demonetization has crippled the parallel economy creating space for new ideas and individuals to make the difference; and many are gearing up towards it! As an academic, I have long taught the impact of disruption in class.
Personally, demonetization is just that opportunity to take the theories into action. I see major scope of work in Skilling and Entrepreneurship, possibly because they are my core domain. I am sure, others will find scope in theirs area of expertise. Enough of hoopla, it is time for action. The onus now lies on the educated to steer through the challenges arising from the disruption, and converting the same into new opportunities.
