New Office To Go With A New Name

There is a nostalgic feeling that comes with moving into my new office space inside The Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center for Innovation. More than four years ago, I formed a small company, Skillset LLC, to develop technology that would improve how police respond to a critical event. Back then, 17 years into my career in law enforcement, I would have told anyone they were crazy if they said I would soon be a tech startup CEO. Today, I am staring out my window, sipping my coffee, and overlooking the sprawling campus of Nova Southeastern University.

Last month, we were busy converting our tiny, outgrown LLC into CERA Software, Incorporated. It seems fitting to have this fresh new workspace to go with the new name. From that start day in 2017, to standing in the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas attack in 2018, to risking everything by retiring from law enforcement in 2020 to pursue this full time, I feel like I’ve lived a lifetime in four years. The team of one is now a team of 24. We are now housed among the giants in tech innovation, from space exploration to defense technology. We’ve earned this spot through a lot of sweat and long hours, at least that’s what I tell myself. The rest of the time I sit here completely humbled by this experience.

What I do know is our mission keeps moving forward. We have created the path to saving lives, especially our children, when violence finds us. That noble cause is what earns our place every day. My vision moving forward is much like my view from this new office: Extraordinary.
