The New Normal

To me, a new normal is something that would’ve been abnormal by all means before any incident. Contextually speaking, COVID-19 has taught us the same having a major shift in state of economy, society, and our entire perspective as a whole following the crisis. And as I mentioned, it differs from the situation that prevailed prior to the start of the crisis.
To the best of my knowledge no futurist working with global trends in any sector has had even thought of such incidence coming. The result is a mandatory reinvention of ourselves in all regards as we all have to agree.
Question remains, how is that going to happen?
We are certainly not going back to normal in recent times for sure and the medical fraternity around the world has opined the same to embrace the change in as many possible regards possible to adjust to this new era. There’s a spectrum of possible post-coronavirus futures, no straight line from here, to there. The new “normal” depends on several unknowns. While the pandemic curve is flattening in parts of the world, we still don’t know if we’re at the end of any last wave or we have just crossed over the one of many. The vast majority of us remain susceptible.
The other big unknown and uncertainty depicts the question whether the pandemic virus eventually burns itself out or become part of the annual, seasonal kind of respiratory infections?
The world we know has certainly changed and this new normal has brought in a lot of challenges that need to be addressed over a period of time. As I talked to one of the noted Community Leaders in Toronto, Canada, Ms. Rima Berns McGown MPP in an online talk show, I found a lot of insights as to these challenges and their impacts on individuals and coomunity. The short video in my deliberation of the topic covers it.
Changes have taken place and there will be many. But I see a lot of light in between. The grass is greener, air is purer, emotions and feelings for each other has grown by large and the feeling of ‘we are all in it together’ is shining bright. And these are none but a few of the silver linings of what COVID-19 has brought in front of us.
I see hope, I see love and a better tomorrow.
