The new normal

Last weekend my son who is at school in Romania was invited to a party with school friends. The school is a British Private school and thus hosts many diplomats and executive-level kids. At 17 years old the pandemic has caused a great deal of turmoil and disruption on so many levels and I believe particularly in teenagers who naturally have a hormone imbalance during this period of life culminating with exponential exam stress for their UNI grades.

As a parent what do you say, no way son it's a covid breeding ground. Well, I was shocked to discover the following; The parents of the kid hosting the party were only allowing the inviting of kids from the same year at school who were currently attending school. Each invite came with a lateral flow Covid test kit. The instruction was clear and concise, with no covid test no access to the party. My initial thoughts were that this was a bit extreme, however, pondering on the sensibility of creating a firewall along with all the normal Covid firewall tactics of hygiene and self-isolation should you show any symptoms.
