The New Normal ... it's here to stay
Embrace it or deny it, operating in the new normal is here to stay. The COVID-19 pandemic hit us unprepared. In the speed of lightning, the new-normal has emerged and will stay on for good (or until the vaccine is developed). Our lives have drastically changed, so do our modus operandi.
But one thing remains the same; we are still “human” deep inside us. To fight this pandemic, we should not enforce the new SOP by force. My ongoing visit to the hospital during this MCO period gives me a new perspective, in fact, a human perspective to be exact.
Everyone is concern about their safety and well-being. Nobody wants to be infected by the virus, but why people are not embracing the new normal? Something just doesn’t add up. There is a missing piece in the puzzle and it’s simply the “influence”.
The word influence is not a new word. It has been there throughout this pandemic but we just missed it. Quoting Ken Blanchard, the famous personality in the field of leadership, “The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.”
Personally, I feel that we should influence people to embrace the new normal and not to force them to follow. At this juncture, I would like to record my gratitude to #UMMC staff. Their approach of influencing people to follow the new normal is commendable; not by forcing (hard approach) but simply influencing (human approach).
Let’s work together as one entity (as a human) and fight this virus. Embrace the new normal; it’s good for you and your family. My special thanks to Bavani Periasamy for her inspirational sharing yesterday that prompted me to pen this thought down.
