New Neonatal Care Leave & Pay

New Neonatal Care Leave & Pay

Big changes are coming for working parents! From 6 April 2025, eligible employees will have the right to take up to 12 weeks of neonatal leave if their baby requires seven or more consecutive days of hospital care within the first 28 days after birth.

To support this new right, the Government has now published two key draft regulations:

? Neonatal Care Leave and Miscellaneous Amendments Regulations 2025 – covering who qualifies, how to apply, and what employers need to do.

? Statutory Neonatal Care Pay (General) Regulations 2025 – setting out the payment framework for those taking neonatal leave.

?? What this means for employers: While these regulations are still awaiting Parliamentary approval, businesses should start preparing now—reviewing policies, updating HR processes, and ensuring compliance when the law takes effect.

This is a significant step in supporting working parents during challenging times. I’ll keep you updated as things develop!
