New Motorway Speed Limit: Fines & FIRs for Violators

The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) has announced a strict new policy to curb overspeeding on motorways across Pakistan. As per the latest directives, vehicles exceeding 150 km/h will be completely banned from the motorway, with both a fine and an FIR being registered against violators.

Revised Speed Limits

According to the official spokesperson of the Motorway Police:

  • The speed limit for cars on three-lane motorways is 120 km/h.
  • For public service vehicles (buses, vans, etc.), the speed limit is 110 km/h.

This initiative is part of a special campaign against high-speed vehicles launched under the directives of IG Motorway Police, Riffat Mukhtar Raja. The campaign aims to enhance road safety and reduce fatal accidents on Pakistan’s highways and motorways.

Speed monitoring on national highways will be made more effective. Whereas, safety barriers and fencing on motorways will be ensured to prevent accidents. Ensuring safe travel remains the top priority of the Motorway Police.

25% Extra Motorway Toll?

Earlier this month, the National Highway Authority (NHA) announced a new policy for motorway toll collection in Pakistan. As per the latest notification dated January 31, 2025, the NHA will enforce a 100% M-Tag regime on all motorways, making it mandatory for all vehicles to use M-Tags for toll payments.

Started from February 1, 2025, vehicles that do not have an M-Tag or have a low balance in their M-Tag accounts will be charged an additional 25% toll fee over and above the standard toll rates. Moreover, there will be a minimum surcharge of Rs. 50, ensuring compliance with the new digital toll system.

This policy is part of an initiative to transition the motorway toll collection system towards full automation, reducing cash transactions and ensuring smoother traffic flow. While the recent crackdown on overspeeding is a step in the right direction to improve road safety and prevent accidents caused by reckless driving.

Very informative! I think the speed limit for commercial vehicles should be 100Km/h.
