New Media meets Traditional Painting
I been very busy in my studio getting ready for the Superfine Art Fair in San Francisco. Painting with layers of latex, acrylic, aerosol, my canvases are studies of primary colors, brush marks and pattern. I’ve been vexed looking at these 12x12 canvases for a few days. What kind of imagery would work on a background this intense? Aha! Modern day icons could initiate a story line and be the final element to complete the pieces. There are 12 in the series.
I photographed a few of the paintings and decided to upload the images into a design platform. Working within a 24 x 18 poster template the plan was to see what the paintings would look like if I made stencils of the icons I was toying with online. I could manipulate the backgrounds and view the final work without using one drop of paint! Saving time and money I was tickled with myself.
Then it occurred to me that I could print a limited run of these posters and make then available for sale at a smaller price point. Woohoo new media! Everybody wins! I’ve got the studies to complete the original paintings and a new artworks to share with the world.
