New MDA Station Opens in Druze Village?of?Julis

There is a new Magen David Adom station in Julis, a Druze village in Northern Israel. The new station will serve the residents of seven Druze towns and villages in the Western Galilee.??

“We believe in the true covenant that has existed since the establishment of the state between the Druze community and the State of Israel,” said Director-General Eli Bin at a celebration in honor of the new station. ?

The family of Sliman Kawas, an MDA paramedic who was killed in a car accident, was present at the station’s inauguration event. In 1984 a truck crashed into Kawas’s ambulance while he was transporting a wounded woman to the hospital.

“We are proud to belong to MDA, we now have so many people who can save lives.” - Lubna Kawas Hanu, Sliman Kawas’s daughter.

Kawas is remembered for his loyalty and sacrifice to help others as one of the first Arab-Israeli paramedics. 40 years later, many members of his family have continued his legacy by dedicating themselves to helping others by either working or volunteering for MDA.

“We grew up without a father and dreamed from childhood of following in his path to save lives and help others,” said Lubna Kawas Hanu, Sliman Kawas’s daughter. ?“We are proud to belong to MDA, we now have so many people who can save lives.”
