New Logo Announcement: Introducing CMUSPP new brand identity

We are proud to announce the launch of our new logo here at the School of Public Policy (SPP), Chiang Mai University as part of the on-going evolution of the organization and our continuous work and commitment to our stakeholders.

In such a short time, our professional profile has grown and evolved over the past 4 years since our original inception at Chiang Mai University, it was clear that it was a time for change. We have altered our logo to reflect who we are today and to symbolize our contribution toward a sustainable and inclusive future.

Speaking with the Director of the School, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ora-orn Poocharoen, she give us her take on the meaning of this logo.

Our logo comprises of three primary images melded into one, the first is the fingerprint, the second is the tree trunk and the final one is the universe.

The fingerprint symbolizes how SPP has a new approach to policy analysis; our inclusive and innovative approach such as emphatic deliberative process and analysis helps our partners think about public policies in a unique way. Whoever we work with, whichever policy we work on, we always leave our fingerprint behind.

The second one is the tree trunk which represents our work on sustainability. If you have ever seen a tree stump, you’ll notice the concentric rings which represent the annual growth of that tree. The rings can likely tell us how old that tree was and what was the weather was like during that year, and that is how we envision SPP, we want to want to continue to grow, we want to mature, and leave sustainable marks for the world.

Finally, the universe. We see our work here at SPP as small but with meaningful impact. And just like the universe, which can be considered a perfect system however it is made from imperfect sub-systems, we see public policy as much in the same, we are here and ready to be part of that system and to help make a better world.

The logo also has three distinctive colours, each one has an entirely different meaning and how they represent SPP. The first is ocean blue – this colour signifies the deep and wide connections of public policy into other disciplines, it also symbolizes the wealth of the knowledge and is also associated with leadership.

The second is lime green which represents #innovation, #inclusion and #transformation which are the DNA of our approach and can also be associated with #sustainability which is at the core of what we do.

Finally, there is a speck of orange, this represents a flower called ‘Flames of the Forest’, which is also synonymous of Chiang Mai city and also the symbol of Chiang Mai University.

In the up-and-coming months, SPP will update all of our marketing literature plus our online and social media presence with our new logo. We hope that you will join us in sharing our new logo with your networks and help us to promote the brand to others.
