New LinkedIn Warning Discourages Viewer Click-Throughs

New LinkedIn Warning Discourages Viewer Click-Throughs

Are you posting external links in your LinkedIn posts or the comments beneath your posts??

LinkedIn has created a new message that warns users that they’re leaving the platform when they click on external links.

While this message won’t prevent your viewers from accessing the external site, it may create a chilling effect and reduce click-throughs to your content.

What can you do??

  • Include language that informs viewers that you take security very seriously and the link is safe.
  • Add the link after you post your content. In this case, it’s best to wait and post the link after the first two hours because the algorithms will limit your reach if you post comments or edit your post during the first hour. (Of course, you have to remember to go back and post the link.)

LinkedIn is rolling this warning out over time, so you might not have encountered it yet. I just saw?it for the first time yesterday.?

I'm curious: How will this affect your use of external links??

You are right Dumont Owen, Ph.D. It makes users more cautious about their actions. I happen to read it every time. It's a psychological strategy to keep people on LinkedIn. The platform is doing a good job of holding us here.

It was scary seeing this at first Dumont Owen,. I guess it makes sense for LinkedIn to try and protect its users.

Unfortunately, this warning also appears when you add your website to a LinkedIn message.
