The new LinkedIn feature you must see

The new LinkedIn feature you must see

Article By John Nemo

In case you hadn’t noticed, LinkedIn has taken a page from Facebook.

Videos in the platform’s newsfeed now automatically start playing as soon as you see them.

This is a huge deal, because attention is everything when it comes to standing out from the crowd in the busy LinkedIn newsfeed.

Why is this such good news? At our core, we human beings arevisual creatures.

Why Video Works So Well on LinkedIn

A moving image or video is guaranteed to give a person pause. Our eyes can’t help but stop our thumb from scrolling to see what the heck that movement is all about.

Those precious few seconds give your LinkedIn status update a chance to be seen and consumed, and that’s all you can ask for into today’s over-saturated, always-on, 24/7/365 world of social media updates and nonstop scrolling.

When you add videos to your LinkedIn status updates, you not only catch the eye of someone scrolling through the newsfeed — you also open up the door to a whole new branding and marketing opportunity!

Why You Should Use YouTube Videos on LinkedIn

As of this writing, LinkedIn doesn’t support “native” video uploads. That means you have to first upload your video to a third-party site like Vimeo or YouTube before sharing it on LinkedIn.

I love sharing videos on LinkedIn via YouTube because of all the additional ways you can build your audience via YouTube.

In the screenshot example from this post, you can see that I’m using elements in my uploaded video to point people to the landing page URL I want them to click on. But there are also live, clickable elements inside the video itself, such as subscribing to my YouTube Channel.

Make sure you take advantage of those extra benefits that YouTube offers within your videos, including:

  • Subscribe to my YouTube channel
  • Website links and information
  • Links to additional videos
  • Video descriptions and annotations

Along with all those “in video” links and options, another reason to use YouTube when sharing your videos on LinkedIn is that Google owns YouTube, and thus sorts, categorizes and integrates YouTube videos into Google Search results.

How to Make Effective LinkedIn Videos

For more ideas, inspiration and tools for making effective marketing videos, you can visit this section of my website and get some ideas and examples.

In general, animated videos using a simple, “do it yourself” program like VideoMakerFX can work well to catch someone’s eye and tell a story in a fun and entertaining fashion.

Whenever possible, I love seeing you on screen, talking directly to me, because that’s the fastest way to build “face to face” trust, likability and credibility with me as a prospect or potential client.

Either way, video is a powerful tool, one that is already being consumed at an incredible rate online.

More important, nothing works better than video at building the “Know, Like and Trust” elements that are critical to any sales transaction or customer relationship.

With LinkedIn making it easier than ever to share and utilize video on the platform, you’ll be well-served jumping in with your own visuals to take advantage.
