Traditional wars and orthodox ways to attack are long gone. New generational warfare also known to some as hybrid warfare is shaping the world order. New world order is erupting and is now transforming the world from post Soviet unipolar world to multipolar. The ultimate goal of influence creation and territory capturing around the world is always economic well being. What is the point of controlling the piece of territory if you don’t have resources to provide for people? The lines of defense have dramatically changed from traditional geographical borders to the economic forefronts.
The real line of defense is how resilient are economic assets to the external shocks. How do you do that? Effective armies are function of economic well being of the country and vice versa. Long gone are the days when armies use to conquer territories to kick start the economic growth. Roman and British empires expanded economically as a result of capturing territories and establishing more colonies. Being powerful requires both economic and military might.
Are we spending equal resources to prosper economically? Answer in case of Pakistan is big No. Our economic crippling will eventually weaken our army and defense capabilities. We need to build strong defense lines elsewhere which are prerequisite of border defense. External enemies can now attack us by tweaking our law and order situation, slowing our exports, and or debt trap.. I would expect Pakistan will develop institutions like NDU and think tanks for economic prosperity. We need to lift ourselves from economic emergencies. I dread the day when ghosts of our economic crisis start casting shadows on our military capabilities.
