A New Level of Connectivity

A New Level of Connectivity

Internet access is one of the defining pillars of the digital realm, and it has been shown that a third of the people who are online consider it just as vital as food and water. The number of individuals that share that view is rising exponentially.

With that information in mind, it is only natural that online users want faster internet connection, with reduced loading and buffering time. Gamers, remote workers, and everyone else that relies on the internet understandably become frustrated whenever their work is hindered due to poor connection.

The solution to these problems is an elegant one, with an estimated 10 Gigabytes speed, 5G is set to reshape the online world.

The next major paradigm shift is powered by 5G technology. Below is an overview of industries that will rapidly evolve and excel with the use of 5G.

5G and Virtual Worlds:

Perhaps one of the most powerful alliances that holds the potential to reshape the world as we know is that of 5G and blockchain. The Metaverse, or the digital world, is going to require an obscene amount of data transfer, one that is only possible through the advent of 5G. Having delay due to low bandwidth within the virtual sphere impedes the user experience contributing to low adoption rates. That is why 5G is one of the most anticipated technologies that, once combined with blockchain and Extended Reality (XR), will make it possible for users around the world to interact with one another in real time. The ultimate vision is to enable people who are seated comfortably at home to see and interact with others who are anywhere in the world, of course, this transaction would be reciprocal through Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies.

Internet of Things (IoT):

IoT is a concept that might make our world look like it came out right out of a sci-fi novel. Your gadgets obeying your commands, a smart home that recognizes your needs and fulfills them for you, being able to control your entire arsenal of devices through your phone, all of that and more will be part of everyone’s day-to-day life at some point, and 5G will make it possible. As a matter of fact, 5G will bolster IoT devices’ communication capabilities, making them much more efficient and valuable through instant responsiveness. Additionally, businesses are also set to significantly cut their costs when it comes to production through the automation of complex protocols and transactions thanks to the speed and amount of data that can be transferred by 5G. A most basic example is the use of sensors to detect a heat anomaly in storage units and automatically adjust and maintain optimum conditions.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The low latency of 5G will expand AI, giving them a significantly more meaningful impact on a societal level. The effect will not only be felt on an individual level, but AI can also be adopted in large scale economic development to further boost global prosperity. In addition to low latency, 5G enables edge computing, which in turn colossally increases AI’s propagation without demanding absurd amounts of energy. Edge computing simply refers to fetching the data that needs to be processed and placing it on servers as close to the user as possible, and this is rendered possible due to 5G’s immense bandwidth as it implies the transfer of mountainous amounts of data. In a nutshell, 5G speeds up machine learning and sharing of the newly acquired information. Healthcare, tourism, e-commerce, logistics, are some of the many fields that stand to gain from the powerful alliance of 5G and AI.

Mobility:

Perhaps one of the most intriguing and wild use-cases for 5G is automation of transportation. Few would trust their vehicles to take control of their lives while they relax in the backseat. Surprisingly enough, 5G can make automatic driving much safer through instant data transfer. Currently, autonomous cars operate through machine learning, sensors, and complex computation, all of which will be enhanced by the unparalleled speeds that 5G offers, in addition to enabling live communication to avoid impact. Additionally, 5G offers the possibility of cutting costs on supply chain by automating driverless trucks, trains, and even planes to move on a tight schedule and minimize delay all the while eliminating human error. Truly fascinating, but terrifying nonetheless.

Conclusion

All in all, 5G offers a plethora of exciting possibilities that go hand in hand with the vision of the 21st century. Smart cities, automated mass production, AI companions, self-driving cars, we are drawing ever so closely to actually achieving that vision, and excitement throughout multiple communities can be seen as they are ready to embrace that tech. With that said, some concerns regarding health, which has so far been disproved by the World Health Organization (WHO), still arise, and it is a little concerning to think that all of the machinery will operate on a single network, giving them a single point of failure.

With that said, we live in the information age, and the importance of data shows no signs of slowing down, so now more than ever, the ability to transfer large bodies of data is crucial to unlock the digital future.
