A New Lens for Achieving Presence

A New Lens for Achieving Presence

Hard Truth Tuesday: There's a part of you that believes wanting to be more present in your life is a cliche... and it's keeping you from getting what you want.

You think it sounds dumb, like a bad meme about living your best life.

So you cringe when you tell your coach you “just want to be present.”

That you’re tired of living 3 steps ahead, worrying about what’s next.

Physically there, but not mentally here.

Missing out on important moments.

Being present is being in your power.

It’s not "dumb" to desire more presence in your life.

And it’s not your fault you’re struggling so hard to get there.

High-achieving women tend to have a hard time allowing themselves to be fully present in their lives because…

  1. From a young age, women are often taught to be caregivers and multitaskers, prioritizing others' needs above your own. This constant juggling makes it challenging to focus on the present moment.
  2. Women carry generational trauma that keeps us on high alert. This inherited stress impacts your ability to feel safe and present in your own life.
  3. Women have a history of financial insecurity that pulls us out of the present as we try to strategize and plan incessantly for the future.
  4. Women face immense pressure to be perfect in their roles at work, home, and socially. This drive for perfection keeps your mind busy with future tasks and concerns about meeting these high standards.
  5. The invisible work of managing household duties, relationships, and social connections disproportionately falls on women. This mental load means you’re often thinking several steps ahead, making it hard to be present in the now.

Understanding what’s at play always goes a long way. ??

Seeking presence and the ability to feel fully alive are no joke goals.

Not gonna lie, getting there takes reps.

But starting is the first step.

Do it with me:

?? Savour that sip of hot coffee, really taste it

?? Look your partner in the eyes, notice how they've changed

?? Stop to pet your dog and notice the feeling of their fur against your hand

?? Stand up, notice where your shoulders are in space

?? Face away from your screen and take the deepest breath you have all day

Baby steps along the way to big bold presence.
