New L&D Model: Content, Communication, Simulation
Does the work of L&D really need to be any more complicated than these 3 things: Content, Communication, Simulation?
I often here my L&D colleagues speak of "asking the right questions" to make sure training is really the right solution to solve whatever problem is at hand. The reality is, most business problems are NOT training issues. So, why would trainers be so eager to put themselves out of a job?
As always the problem rests mostly in how we see the work of L&D. And this may be a long shot, but I'm thinking these 3 elements are all we should be concerned with. If we were able to focus on these, we could show value to the business while developing a culture of learning.

9 年I think your ideas are great for information, and to some degree, knowledge gathering and sharing. But as we all know, access to knowledge does not necessarily translate to acquiring new skills or behavior change. My thinking is that there will be a layer of L&D folks who will be able to make a career doing exactly what you describe. And then there will be some of us who continue to try to help individuals and organizations go through the more in-depth process of creating, driving, and inspiring meaningful and lasting development. Those curated items could be a tool, but they won't be the whole ball of wax.Oh...and one more "c" Connections! Thanks for inspiring some good thinking and a shout out though. :-)

9 年Enjoyed the post, Brent! However, if these were put in order of importance, I'd switch communication and content around.

9 年'Any time you can get the person who needs the knowledge directly connected to the person who has the knowledge, it's a win-win. But that doesn't scale. And this is where technology helps' -- yup makes so much sense, and then it further scales when the tech is able to integrate itself in multiple enterprise systems, thus working in-context.
