New Laws Taking Effect in New Jersey in 2025

Minimum Wage Increase: On January 1, 2025, New Jersey’s?statewide minimum wage?will increase by $0.36 to $15.49 per hour.

Pay Transparency: On June 1, 2025,?pay transparency legislation will go into effect, which will require employers to disclose compensation information with regard to employment and promotion opportunities.

Medical Debt Protection: On July 1, 2025, the?Medical Debt Relief Act?will protect patients from aggressive debt collection practices and prevent undue hardship to low-income patients, including limiting interest on medical debt to 3% and restricting wage garnishment.

Freedom to Read Act: The?Freedom to Read Act will establish requirements for library materials in public school libraries and public libraries and protect school library staff members and librarians.
