New labor laws for private sector workers will come into effect in the UAE starting February 2, 2022
? Allowing more flexible work options, such as flexible week/days, as long as employees fulfill their work hours, in agreement with their employer.
??Prohibiting discrimination against employees.
? Lifting legal fees on the employer in case they want to file a labor case against their employer.
??Banning overtime of more than two hours in one day.
??Introducing a paid mourning leave between three to five days.
??Introducing a paternity leave of five days in all emirates.
??Allowing 15 year-old and above to work after obtaining parental approval.
- Prohibition of discrimination in jobs on the basis of race, colour, gender, religion or nationality.

- Protection for employees against bullying, harassment by the employer
- Absolute clarification in law that the employer has to bear the fees and expenses of recruitment and employment, AND that they are legally cannot recover them directly or indirectly from the employee
- Employers cannot confiscate employees’ official documents - this means passports and certificates etc!
- Introduction of new forms of work under the law including part-time work, temporary work, flexible work, freelancing, condensed working weeks, shared job models, and self-employment.
- The clarification that the Labour Law covers and includes all workers in Private companies AS WELL as those in Free Zone companies (unless the FZ has their own laws).
The other amendments are very positive and are either new clauses to the law or reinforcements and clarifications, for example;
- The employment of teenagers (over 15 years) has been clarified with rules and requirements.
- Maternity leave in the private sector can extend to 60 days: 45 days with full wage, followed by 15 days on half wage.
- Introduction of a compassionate leave ranging from 3 to 5 days
- Introduction of 10 days study leave for employees
