For nearly a year I have coordinated a team of European journalists investigating #AsbestosLethalLegacy in buildings in Europe, supported by @journalismfund.eu. The stories are out today. Deaths have been underestimated for decades. Many health scientist and authorities still haven't accepted the new number of deaths, but it is spreading down now from the most leading scientist.
It is no longer old mans diseases. Younger women and kids get sick and die due to exposure in buildings and renovation of buildings. In addition asbestos in the environment contribute to make the risk bigger. And the number of deaths to rise - even in a country like Sweden, where asbestos was totally banned 40 years ago.
Shocking is also the poor knowledge on where asbestos is in buildings and no real plans to get rid of it. I really hope, our investigation and other stories will spread the knowledge of this dangerous killer. And act.
