The New and Improved ASNT.org Website

The New and Improved ASNT.org Website

Last October, ASNT launched its newly redesigned website at asnt.org. This was a two-year project that included a complete overhaul of the main ASNT website, along with ASNT Certification Services Inc.’s website plus a brand-new website for the ASNT Foundation. The goal of the project was to improve the user experience by shifting from a department-siloed experience to a more user-centered journey. The redesign included a complete design update, which was paired with a concurrent rebranding effort to align with ASNT’s new brand and logo.

Q: What was the main focus of the ASNT website redesign?

A: The redesign focused on improving the user experience by shifting from a department-siloed experience to a more user-centered journey. It aimed to streamline navigation, enhance clarity, and increase the number of calls to action, ensuring a more efficient and accessible experience.

Q: What are some examples of the new functionality?

A: Standard pull-down menus were expanded into “mega menus,” which provide more information at a glance so users can more easily find what they’re looking for. In addition, multiple platforms and systems were integrated to improve search results. A central feature of this was the creation of “The Source,” a content hub that aggregates content across different formats, including print, audio, and video, and provides a comprehensive search tool based on topical keywords. The Source can be accessed via the Standards & Publications tab.

Additionally, user journeys between the Foundation, Certification, and main ASNT domains were integrated and better streamlined. Now, a search conducted at asnt.org will also bring up relevant results from the ASNT Certification Services Inc.’s website and the ASNT Foundation’s website.

Q: What are some examples of new content?

A: The website was dramatically expanded, particularly to serve as an outreach tool for potential new members and the next generation of NDT professionals. For example, the “What is NDT?” section was enhanced with more video and imagery, and the “NDT Career Pathways” area was expanded. A new web page was also built to assist military personnel transitioning into civilian NDT roles.

Q: What new tools were introduced to better understand user behavior?

A: The website introduced a new Customer Support chatbot and AI assistant, alongside Google Analytics, to help better understand user behavior and preferences, providing insights that can inform future improvements.

Q: What improvements were made in terms of accessibility?

A: Accessibility was a key focus, with the goal of meeting AA-level standards per WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). This included improvements such as better color contrast, alt tagging for images, device-readable formatting, and other enhancements to ensure the website is accessible to all users.
