The New Image of Sustainable Leadership

The idea that one day fate will catch up with us is undeniable, and this will happen because we do not protect our planet in the best way or the best possible, I will not mention all the negative issues, there are too many, however if I can tell you that we can help From an individual point of view, for example, to separate our rubbish, not to waste water without meaning, to keep the car in good condition so that it does not contaminate, also in the social order, to stop the indiscriminate felling of trees, plant trees and take care of them, in at work, throwing away the rubbish in its place, paying special attention to what cannot be thrown anywhere, saving paper by digitizing our files and much more.
I will refer only to the labour field, in my case in reference to IT equipment and how this area can help the environment, for this, we understand our leadership position and with it a structure of a new competence:
The human, technical and emotional ability to interact and influence people or groups through values, to obtain goals and sustainable results that benefit and protect present and future generations.
So, our belief is that sustainable, informed and global thinking leadership can help solve many of today's challenges, and it is true, many of us envision it in order to accelerate growth, so it is essential to have the trust of our partners within the same company, which is built on continuous operational excellence.
Well, by integrating the objectives of the company, in my case the IT area, it is my responsibility to create strategic investment plans that achieve the desired business results and discover new opportunities to increase business value, here we make it clear that sustainable leadership generate these opportunities that give IT a voice in the organization, at the same time it contributes by transforming the way of working while achieving the main objective of promoting sustainable growth of the business, without affecting the environment.
On its positive side, it is tangible and stands out when senior CEOs demonstrate success in measures of innovation, workplace, governance, responsible citizenship and of course with their sustainable leadership driving financial performance, for example: a virtualization project to save physical servers, saving space, electricity consumption, heat generation, thereby helping the environment.
Sadly, it's not easy to measure sustainable leadership, when you look at the stock market and investment returns, there's not much on the lighter side of business, for example, it's been said: Wall Street tends to focus on the facts concrete financial, not in the environmental and social impact, will it be? Is this blatantly obvious concept wrong?
This is a leadership disruptive phenomenon and occurs when company leaders often CEOs manage companies with the environment, society and long-term sustainable development goals in mind, they take stakeholders into account any person associated with a company, from employees, consumers to future generations, not just shareholders or investment capital who invest financially in the company.
Businesses need leaders who can balance the pressure of short-term goals and priorities alongside long-term goals and embody a new set of ideals focused on improving the world's social and environmental problems.
“It is about leading in a way that benefits societies and the environment, while maintaining financial performance, if social values are applied we will see that profit and financial performance are NOT the only thing that matters”
What does sustainable leadership look like?
Sustainable leadership is about taking a responsible approach to the way we lead, stopping to think about the broader impact of our actions on society and the environment, consider that this might mean reasoning that our stakeholder group is broader, as well as the natural systems within which we are operating and their limits.
In my opinion, it is essential to start by exploring and understanding how our individual roles can contribute to addressing global challenges such as climate change and gender inequality, and in doing so, recognize the value that our individual actions can bring, if you are one of this select As a responsible group of leaders, you may have noticed that we always look up and beyond our role, organization, and industry.
How is leadership education changing?
Education is transcendental in leadership for a future that recognizes that we are working in volatile, uncertain, complex and/or ambiguous contexts, however, it is not a position or a person, but rather represents a series of practices that enable collaborative action towards a common mission, therefore continuous learning and collaboration with others is fundamental to these practices.
“Our role as a leader or leader generator is to create a process where we present models and frameworks in such a way that the new values can reflect on the usefulness of the theory as it relates to their organizational context and their own practices, that is create awareness with bases
What role do leaders play in organizations?
I am sure that the most representative leaders definitely shape the organizational culture through their own actions and the way they include and involve others, they maintain advanced values that set the tone by placing responsible leadership at the centre of their strategy and values, of course, develop self-awareness and continually reflect on their own relationship to environmental, social and economic problems.
It is important to reflect on how our organizational strategy brings a real and positive effect in the world, and what changes we can make to contribute in a more sustainable way over time, I call on experienced leaders, those who create an environment to around you where employees, stakeholders and customers can collaborate to shape a sustainable future.
Skills:
It is clear that our educational process builds competencies in a number of ways, for example by helping us create a psychologically safe space for individual reflection on practice and opportunities for social learning with others.
Of course, my intention is not for us to be a Dalai Lama or a successor to Gandhi, but rather to see social learning as supporting critical thinking and flexibility by enabling dialogue that reflects multiple perspectives in both theory and practice, thus I believe that we facilitate the experience with critical reading and can develop more robust critical thinking skills.
In the content of the organizational context, we must allow learning to our own business challenges and make innovations, as well as recommendations to promote practical goals of sustainable development.
The sustainable leadership profile is a unique opportunity to link individual development with sustainable development goals, many of us can do this initially through an exploration of individual values and purpose that motivates us and structure a plan accordingly customized to address the challenges that this implies.

Linking individual values and a focused approach provides purpose and understanding for the people around us, and helps understand how personal and professional priorities link to global issues.
Along with values, managerial behaviours and sustainability management are also affected by beliefs, character traits, styles, and attitudes.
"A sustainable leader must have a set of personal characteristics and managerial traits that allow them to lead with empathy within a multitasking and multipurpose environment, therefore a sustainability leader is someone who inspires and supports action towards a better world"
Individual sustainability leaders are unlikely to incorporate all the traits, styles, skills and knowledge of our organizational model of action, so they need to draw on what is appropriate or appropriate to their own personality and circumstances, in order to be more effective in addressing the challenges of sustainability.
Harmonic and interdisciplinary understanding
The leaders who will help guide us toward a more equitable world will need to face the depth and breadth of this challenge and turn it into a positive force within organizations.
Emotional intelligence and caring attitude
These leaders play a vital role in clarifying the values of the organization, framing the relevant questions and helping to create a vision for a new future. In my experience, it takes courage to challenge deeply held beliefs and ideological assumptions and, of course, it takes insight and ability to think and develop the adaptive capacity of an organization and inspire others to expand new strategies and learn new ways of operating.
Orientation to values that shapes culture
There is a personal commitment, the civil value of good manners, which must be embodied in someone who is going to succeed in this space of sustainable leadership.
“Our credibility must come from the way we behave and interact with the world”
A solid vision to make a difference
The true test, of course, is the actions we take and the performance we deliver, based on one-off actions and isolated sustainability initiatives.
An inclusive style that builds trust
For sure, leaders actually lead through teams, the idea is to get people to go where they wouldn't have gone on their own and if they can get there on their own then they don't really need a leader, just the same. You can't always and shouldn't drag them in the opposite direction of where they want to go, if so you're failing as a leader.
Willingness to innovate and be radical
We can all see that future capabilities will be very different and will give importance to lateral thinking and collaborative organizational problem-solving with more participation.
A long-term perspective of the impacts
It is clear that companies think in the longer term than governments and good companies think in a much longer term than bad ones, that is not a dogma, we can change the result.
Finally, even considering the limitations of this brief free narrative, you can contribute to the organizational environment in the search for awareness about the importance of the sustainable leader, this leader who must coordinate the process of mentality change towards sustainability, in the search of a more balanced development.
