Each summer, many SETI Institute researchers head to the far reaches of the planet to conduct field research. One such scientist is?Dr. Pascal Lee. Pascal is a senior planetary scientist at the SETI Institute, Chairman of the Mars Institute and Director of the NASA Haughton-Mars Project (HMP). HMP is on Devon Island in Canada, the largest uninhabited island on Earth. The harsh climate on Devon Island and its isolation, much like Mars, provides an opportunity to conduct analog research.

Additionally, Pascal develops and tests new equipment, technologies and operational protocols to support human exploration of the moon, Mars and beyond. Pascal and his team will depart for Devon Island later this month, and we'll have some stories to tell when he returns! In the meantime, Pascal was recently interviewed on NPR's Blue Dot podcast here.

It was foggy on Monday night where I live, so I couldn't see the year's first supermoon. Judging from the photos I saw online, it was something. Did you take a photo you'd like to share? Send it to me; I'd love to see it! I'll have to wait until August 1 to see the next supermoon.

Cheers to all you Earthlings,

Rebecca
