Your Weekly Short-Form Video Secrets: The scheduling feature everyone wants, plus a “giant” curiosity gap from one creator
What IG creators have been waiting for… is finally here
Instagram Reels announced a slew of feature changes that are set to make the platform more similar to TikTok. And it makes sense: TikTok has seen massive success for a reason. Copying some features is a good business move.
One huge change will be the ability to preview and schedule Reels (cue the singing angels). Not being able to do this previously has been a long standing headache for creators, social media managers, and companies. Not only does it add extra steps to your process, but we also know that platforms deprioritize content posted through third-party schedulers.?
What does this mean for you? With this shift from Instagram, creators will have a much easier time staying consistent with posting Reels (yay!). There are also other changes in the works, including being able to post Reels to a “close friends” list. This can provide a way to stay in touch with close friends and family while keeping your “brand” focused on your expertise or industry. We’ll keep an eye, though, on how this content might impact the algorithm.

With some pretty tall engagement numbers (more than 12.5 million views and going on 5,000 comments), this video shows the power of kicking off with a strong visual and creating an immediate curiosity gap.?
By starting off with a person of a “normal” height, plus a statistic about that height most of us aren’t familiar with, we can infer that something more radical is coming. Sure enough, in less than 10 seconds, with each new person that comes into frame, we can’t believe what we’re seeing! This forces us to keep watching until the end, creating a remarkably high watch time.
The caption does a lot of the curiosity gap work in this video too: the creator teased in the video description that one height is taller than only about 4,000 people in the world. Naturally, we want to know what that number is — and get an actual look at those superhuman sizes.
Your takeaway: Is there an industry fact or piece of advice you could showcase with a visual from your business or personal life? Better yet… Can you do it in a sequential way that keeps the viewer wanting to watch???
