New Hyundai Hatchback in all its glory!

Hyundai's all-new hatchback, which is likely to be called Santro, has made its first presence on internet today. The front-end, however, is not completely visible but what we can see now suggests, this new model looks unlike any other Hyundai on Indian roads. It's so sharp and funky to look at that it has brought memory of Jim Carrey's character in the movie - The Mask - to my mind.

This car has a pretty emotive face and unconventional styling. Front grille is widened from one edge of the bumper to the other. Adding more to appeal are highly-positioned fog lamps.

From the rear, it appears like a blend of Renault's KWID and its elder sibling Grand i10. Interesting bit here is the rear parking camera, positioned below Hyundai emblem.

As seen here, interior layout of the vehicle is quite impressive. Those trapezoidal AC vents at the centre with a large touchscreen between them adding substance to the overall design. Side AC vents are round in shape with a silver adjustment knob. They seem to have star-like design element, similar to the one found on Santro. Other interesting bit to notice is power window buttons are mounted behind the gear knob. Door trims are quite similar to the one found on i10. Other features on the range-topping variant includes steering-mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs and probably rear AC vents too. It is also said that the infotainment system on this car is equipped with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay.

Powering the new Hyundai hatch is a 1.1-liter 3-cylinder engine, as per reports. It would be good for around 75 bhp and should deliver north of 20 kmpl. Transmission on duty will be a 5-speed gearbox which is expected to be offered in both manual and Automated forms from the day 1 itself.

This new Korean chap is a direct rival to Tata Tiago, Maruti's Celerio & WagonR. Price range is likely to start from 3.5 lakhs with the range-topping variant costing upward of 5 lakhs ex-showroom.
