?? New Hope for Job Seekers + 46 Exclusive Remote Job Listings to Apply for Today
(?? Hot job listings at the bottom)
We know the hiring market has been absolutely disgusting for an extended period of time. Everyone is feeling it, except employers, who have their pick of the litter.
But...there's some light at the end of the tunnel.
233k new workers were hired over the past month, the most since July of 2023. This sudden jump absolutely smashed ADP's projections. It's possible that we are watching the eye of the storm pass over as we enter a new phase.
And those jobs weren't isolated to a specific industry. As a matter of fact, the manufacturing sector was the only vertical that lost ground over the past month. Professional & business services jumped by 31k new jobs.
You might not be feeling the effects yet in terms of responses to your applications, but it's a strong leading indicator as we start Q4.
星巴克 is using the stick approach to get employees back in the office
Some companies implementing RTO policies are using the carrot to entice workers back into their cubicles in the way of office perks and career growth opportunities. It's not a silver bullet, but it's a much better approach than the stick, which is Starbucks' Brian Niccol 's weapon of choice.
It's pretty cut-and-clear: Get back into the office, or you're fired.
Shockingly, I'm seeing about 10-15% of commenters on LinkedIn siding with the companies on these policies. Their arguments are usually centered around "It's their rules, you can choose to not work for them", or "Stop being lazy and get your butt to work."
And they're not wrong! (At least with the first argument.)
Nobody is being forced to do anything.
But that argument is a bit obtuse. In this job market, they kind of are. They either abide by the rules or sit idle on the job market for twelve months while their bills stack up.
So no, they really don't have a choice.
And when we dig into the companies' reasoning for RTO, we hear arguments for "improving company culture", "increasing collaboration", "being more productive", "feeling more creative", and a number of other soft, immeasurable rationales.
But when you really get down to it, even if these companies ARE correct about these reasons, it doesn't matter in the least.
The ONLY thing that matters is that RTO makes employees unhappy, and unhappy employees are ineffective. Period.
Disgruntled employees are zero match for whatever gains the company thinks they will achieve by bringing them back into the office. They are cutting off their nose to spite their face.
And, the most talented employees tend to leave first.
So companies can be right all day long. They can bathe in their righteousness. But they will be all alone in their empty offices with the worst talent, and completely in the right.
But fortunately, there are still hundreds of fully remote companies who have built their entire ethos around managing to productivity rather than attendance.
I've got a database of 280+ of these companies, DM me if you want to take a look!
And finally, here's the hot remote jobs of the week!
