New HIMSS-Series Book Helps Vendors Thrive in the Healthcare Market

I’m very pleased to announce the release of my newest book, Thriving in the Healthcare Market: Strategies from an Industry-Insider for Selling Your Product, published by CRC Press as part of the HIMSS Book Series. The book describes 84 pitfalls I’ve seen trip up vendors as they introduce products to healthcare organizations. And, more importantly, it also includes nearly 200 specific suggestions for minimizing or even eliminating these problems. These insights are drawn from my 35 years as a senior healthcare executive.

Although the book primarily focuses on emerging technology such as mHealth, digital health, clinical products, healthcare apps, and other healthtech products, most of the principles are relevant for anyone providing any product or service for hospitals and physicians.

I also include four preliminary chapters that put the pitfalls and recommendations in context. Because it sheds light on the often-nonsensical way providers are paid for the services they render, “The Jacked-Up World of Healthcare Financing” may be the most important chapter in the book. This knowledge helps vendors understand some of the unexpected reactions they often get from hospitals and physicians.

Keep me in mind for speaking engagements on the material covered in the book. Topics include:

·        Overcoming the 7 Biggest Pitfalls that Prevent Tech Adoption

·        Making the Financial Case for Technology Adoption

·        Demystifying the Healthcare Technology Revolution

·        The Jacked-Up World of Healthcare Financing

·        Three Ideas for Making Things Better

One last thing. Although this book is addressed to sales-related organizations, because it provides a 360 degree look of life within healthcare organizations (including clinical, operational, financial, political, and other dynamics) it is perfect for anyone who interacts professionally in any capacity with the healthcare sector. And it provides a crash-course on the system’s inner workings for students preparing for clinical or executive careers.
