What is RankBrain? 

RankBrain is a machine learning artificial intelligence system, which is being deligently used & implemented by Google on 26 October 2015.
RankBrain helps Google to process search results and provide more relevant search results for all its users.In a recent interview, Google commented that RankBrain is the third most important factor in the ranking algorithm besides links and content.

What is Machine Learning?

Machine learning is where a computer teaches itself how to do something & handle a task, rather than being taught by humans or following detailed programming.

What Does RankBrain Do?

RankBrain uses artificial intelligence to embed vast amount of language into mathematical entities called vectors. If RankBrain sees a word or phrase it isn’t familiar with, the machine can make a guess as to what words or phrases might have a similar meaning and filter the result accordingly, making it more effective at handling never-before-seen search queries.

Is the RankBrain the new-way for Google to populate search Results?

Not Exactly. RankBrain is a part of Google’s overall search “algorithm,” a computer program that’s used to sort through the billions of pages it knows about and find the ones deemed most relevant for particular search queries.

Then, What’s The Name Of Google’s Search Algorithm?

It's none other than Hummingbird algorithm where Google brought this up midway through 2013; Google overhauled that algorithm and gave it a name, Hummingbird. As we all know that there are approx 200 various ranking factors which make up to a ranking algorithm but, the actual ranking algorithm function is never disclosed by Google. Hence, it's almost impossible to get 100% certainty about ranking algorithm.
RankBrain is one component of the overall algorithm not to be confused with Page Rank. Page Rank is a separate component of the algorithm introduced in 1998 that awards credit based on a page's inbound links.

How RankBrain is going to Effect the SEO of 2016?

As far as I know, this RankBrain is not an algorithm which fights spam, search engine loopholes & black hat techniques. This is a machine lerning artificial intellegence algorithm which helps in
serving most accurate results to its users. The most interesting part of RankBrain algorithm is that it serves results based on your search location.

For Example: For a search phrase like “How many tablespoons in a cup?”, Google’s Rank Brain will show different search results based on things like what country the search was made from. While Google search engineers guessed correctly 70 percent of the time, Rank Brain had an 80 percent success rate.
Overall, Rank Brain is capable of learning and recognizing new patterns and then revising SERPS (search engine results page) based on its new knowledge.

What I personally believe is; if this RankBrain algorithm is a big success, Google will surely come up with another machine learning artificial intelligence algorithm which will be fighting all the black hat techniques & spamming.
