NEW from Maven Analytics on Medium!
ICYMI: Learning Data with Maven Analytics is a Medium publication where our community can share their knowledge and find even MORE great content from Team Maven!
We’ve been hard at work with some pretty awesome things the last few weeks (have you checked out our upcoming Python & Power BI immersives yet?!), and we’ve got even more on the way!
Here’s some of the content you may have missed in the meantime:
New from Jessica Preuss :
“Congratulations on successfully analysing the data and turning your observations into valuable insights! Now, the real question is, what’s the next move?
Let’s discuss some exciting ideas to put your insights into action. Simply presenting raw data to decision-makers is not enough. Data alone can be dry and unengaging.
However, transforming data into a compelling story can inspire action and drive meaningful change. The power of data storytelling lies in its ability to convey a message that resonates with the audience and motivates them to take action.
By weaving together data insights with compelling visuals and language, data storytelling can captivate audiences, convey insights, and drive action.
In this article, we’ll explore effective data storytelling using strategic approaches and appropriate tools to convey insights compellingly and understandably.”

New from Lauren Rosenthal :
“What do you know about data literacy?
If someone asked you, “are you data literate?” how would you respond? If your answer is ????♀?, you’re not alone — but this one’s for you!
Data literacy is a buzzword that has become increasingly more common in today’s world, and for good reason! The amount of data in the world is expected to reach over 180 zettabytes by 2025, which means it’s growing… and fast.
Data is everywhere. It’s how Netflix knows what TV shows to recommend, how Amazon knows what products to show you, and how TikTok cultivates your FYP. (Yes, this means you’re to blame for what you see on your FYP!)
Having a solid grasp on what data is, how it’s used, and why it’s important is essential. And guess what! That’s essentially what data literacy IS.
If you’re thinking you can just leave the data literacy to the data scientists and analysts, though, think again. Luckily, this brings us to our first common misconception…”

New from Oliver Engist :
“Multiple regression analysis helps us isolate the relationship between two variables by controlling for confounding factors. Unfortunately, once we leave the 2-dimensional space, we cannot easily visualize the data anymore.
Enter the Frisch-Waugh-Lovell Theorem (FWL).
FWL states that the regression coefficient of y on x while controlling for z, is the same as the regression coefficient of y* on x* where y* and x* are the residuals from regressing y on z and x on z respectively.
How is this helpful?
FWL has two important insights…”

New from Jasmin Simader :
“Goal: Is there a correlation between Gender and Favorite Coffee Drink?
With the Chi-Squared test, you can determine if there is a correlation between two categorical variables. In this case, we are examining the relationship between Gender and favorite Coffee Drink. The data used for this analysis is from the Maven Coffee Challenge Data.
Once you understand the framework of the test, it becomes relatively straightforward. The basis of it involves scaling down the number of men and women by utilizing the following…”
