New Frameworks and Tools, Lightning UI Updates, & Platform Demos

Welcome to this week's BUMPER edition of CloudBites Weekly - there is a lot of stuff to share with you this week, so let's dive straight in.

YouTube Transcript Extraction with LWC

Nikhil Karkra shared a great video this week on how to build an app that extracts the transcripts from YouTube videos using LWC and GraphQL. You can find his post with a link to the video here.

I loved this demo and think it's a really cool example of doing something with the platform that is a little off the beaten track but still allows you to get value from it, both in terms of learnings but as a viable use case as well.

One idea I had to extend this was to take the transcript output and run it through an AI model to get a summary of the video and it's key highlights. As an example Sales use case, you could run this against the YouTube channel of a customer or competitor and get a summary of their product's key features as shown in the demo.

CodeMage

Jorge Teodoro Dawn Rodriguez shared a new tool he has released this week - CodeMage. It has a number of cool features such as showing you a tabular format to view an SObject and its fields, download debug logs, Apex hover for SObjects in your code and a bunch more.

I've had a play and it is a great extension you should have a look at if you spend a good portion of your day in VS Code. You can find Jorge's announcement along with details of features and links to the repo here.

Lightning UI Enhancements Incoming

Salesforce UX are updating the lightning UI to help you work faster and improve the overall user experience.

Before and after image from

As you can see from the image above, the layout is cleaner with more rounding and subtler differences in shades. A full breakdown of the updates can be found in the Salesforce post here. As per the post, the rollout will initially be to:

  • New and existing instances of Starter Suite and Pro Suite,?starting on June 5, 2024.
  • New instances of Sales Cloud Professional Edition, starting on June 27, 2024.
  • New instances of Sales Cloud Enterprise Edition, starting on July 25, 2024.

Reading through the post I like the goals of the work and what the refresh looks like. Can't wait to see it soon!

Ditto Mocks

Salesforce testing can often be a pain for a number of reasons. One of the ways in which you can aim to mitigate issues and improve performance is through the use of mocking frameworks, the latest of which is out now - Ditto Mocks! You can see the announcement post here.

Example code image from announcement post at

Mitch Spano and his team at Google have been working on Ditto Mocks to help make their lives - and yours - a lot easier when developing. As per the announcement, the framework helps in mocking many core aspects of the platform such as:

  • Database Operations
  • Email Distribution
  • Invocable Action Execution
  • Flow Interview Invocation
  • Test Record Creation

I'm looking forward to having a deep play with the framework in some of my projects and seeing how it can help make things a little quicker and easier to work with.

Platform Demos and Source-Driven Development

Gabe Sumner from Salesforce posted a great discussion this week about the use of source-driven development and how it helps improve his ability to build and give demos. As part of the discussion he mentioned the Platform Demos site, a passion side project from a number of the Salesforce team that includes loads of great demos you can spin up.

I was blown away by the number of demos you can spin up from there and cannot believe I didn't know about this resource beforehand. If you are looking for a great way to spin something up to demo quickly, this is it!

And finally...

Today my latest CloudBites conversation, with the amazing Christine Marshall , is available (head here for the video or search "CloudBites Conversations" on your podcast player to listen) and aside from the amazing chat about bins ??? (listen/watch to find out more), we had a great conversation that touched on some aspects of content creation and generation. This was then furthered by a really great conversation I had around deep content you can find here.

So this week is not a tip but an ask - what would you like to read/hear/see/watch more about? I want to know the content you think is missing - or the content you think is particularly great that there should be more of. Hopefully we can create a great list of content to share with everyone as well as helping me understand what people want more of (whether from me or anyone else) that can help the community flourish. Comment below or message me if you wish to keep it private. Have a great week!
