New framework for RWE: Empower Providers & Patients
To help inform safer and more targeted healthcare decisions, the Epidemiology team at Johnson & Johnson, together with collaborators, is putting healthcare data to work in entirely new ways.
Researchers with the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics network or (OHDSI, pronounced “odyssey”) published outcomes in The Lancet yesterday from their collaborative ongoing study known as Large-Scale Evidence Generation and Evaluation across a Network of Databases or LEGEND. The study method provides a systematic framework for analyzing globally generated real-world data to compare effectiveness and safety across many medicines and outcomes from millions of patients.
The team looked at nearly 5 million patients across nine observational databases in four countries – providing the most comprehensive real-world look at safety and effectiveness of first-line anti-hypertensive use.
The study findings and analytic methods have significant implications for patients and healthcare providers, and can help us work together to drive towards a learning health care system.
