The new Financial Year is here!

The new Financial Year is here!

July // Issue 3

A word from the Vivid desk!

New Financial Year, New Beginnings? According to KMPG, the global economy is still recovering, but inflation proves to be sticky. Domestically, inflation continues to move down towards the target band, but the progress is slower than expected. The domestic outlook remains positive, but weaker growth is expected for 2024.

We all know and feel it, but there are some positive signs. Check out this?RBA Online Snapshot Comparison tool. This interactive tool allows you to compare snapshots of the economy at different points in time. Cool, eh?

Key Economic Indicators - snapshot - 20 June 2024 - Reserve Bank of Australia

In terms of what we are seeing in the industries we recruit into...

A client asked recently; "If other consultancies aren't as busy as us, why is it hard to find good people?"

Well, in our opinion, we are in a tricky situation, especially in Melbourne. When redundancies have headlined the year, and projects are still being delayed or stopped, uncertainty is the major theme.

A candidate might not be super busy or secure where they are, but they are definitely hesitant about moving to another company when they can't be sure a surprise lay-off isn't around the corner.

Frustrating, yup!

But we are also hearing that Queensland could be super interesting once that pesky State Election is out of the way in October. There's potentially a lot of goodness in the Sunshine State to follow. And, of course, the 2032 Olympics are looming, which has a massive flow effect.

So, are we heading towards exciting times? We think (and hope) so!

Vivid Resources // Engineering... what you need to know & all that stuff!

Yup, we are now in the full swing of the new FY, so thought, hey, let's share an update on where we see engineering right now. And who doesn't love a good update?!?

What are we seeing...

→ Happy employees stay where they are

→ Flexible arrangements are impossible to ignore

→ Salaries are much tighter in this market

→ Seems like things will be in limbo for the rest of the calendar year

→ Candidates are pretty hesitant to move with redundancies still occurring

→ Government spending has slowed significantly in Vic, QLD (Election), NSW

So check out our 'Engineering... what you need to know and all that stuff' HERE. It gives some handy insights and info for both our candidates and clients.

And get in touch with Nicholas Koop, our Director and Engineering Recruitment Lead, if you want a more detailed heads-up, have recruitment needs, or would like to catch up for a beer! He knows stuff.

Podcast // Office Talk UK, Marketing for Architecture - Ep 5

This episode, hosted by Dave Sharp of?Office?D.SHARP,?features Jim Stephenson, an architectural photographer and filmmaker known for capturing the many ways people interact with architecture.

Jim's photos and films cover work by architects such as Zaha Hadid, Assemble, Herzog & de Meuron, dRMM, Frances Kéré, Peter Zumthor, Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, and Sou Foujimoto.

Jim and Dave discuss:

  • Why photographing people enjoying buildings rather than empty spaces can better explain the project's story and concept and serve as a visual testimonial to the building's success?
  • How architectural filmmaking has grown and evolved over the years, and why architects are increasingly seeing the value in having the story of their projects told in film in addition to still photography.
  • Film can help architects reach new audiences in various ways, from extending the potential media reach for a project to producing different cuts of the main film that can be tailored to speak about different subjects to different audiences.
  • The questions Jim likes to ask architects to help them tease out the most interesting stories and ideas in their projects and how we can better prepare for situations where we need to speak about our work on camera.
