New FIMIC RAS 800

Recycling is a game where size matters. Nowadays recyclers need to reach a higher hourly production capacity with efficiency and simplicity, they required right applications for high-throughput recycling lines. FIMIC has been working many years now on improving its filtration technologies in order to meet and satisfy the needs (quality, characteristics) of recyclers, and at the same time facing the challenges of recycling post-consumer and post-industrial plastics. And knows that to reach high quality recycled plastics from contaminated waste needs automatic technologies to filter out impurities and contaminations from the plastic flow. Today, FIMIC is the only company in the plastic recycling industry with a range of 5 different automatic melt filters and screw pumps, offering all possible filtrations and covering the many different existing applications.

FIMIC historic RAS melt filter has reached so far over 530 units installed world-wide. Versatile melt filter, sold all over the world, allows you to handle the ever-increasing contaminations on the market, allowing at the same time continuous operation at full outputs at the lowest operational costs in the market of continuous filters.

RAS melt filters don’t need prefilters and reach up to 2 tons of LDPE or HDPE with a single laser or punched screen, (depending on Customer’s filtration needs).

In case of higher throughput needs, the FIMIC “GEM” melt filter takes over, to reach up to 3 tons of LDPE or HDPE, obviously based on MFI or filtration. In this case we are talking about a TWIN filter, as we increase the filtering surface of the RAS 700 (almost 4.000 cm2) with only two screens by 35%. GEM 600 in fact reaches an astonishing filtration surface of 5.552 cm2 on only two screens.

In the case of very high and probably aggressive contaminations, where normally a one-step filtration is not enough, there is also the possibility of installing the FIMIC “ERA”, a melt filter with two filtration chambers in the same machine. This innovative filter avoids the need to install two separate filters in same line, because ERA filters twice within a single machine.

FIMIC RAS, GEM and ERA are therefore suggested for materials defined as post-consumer, while if we wanted to talk about post-industrial material, in this case, we have recently completed the development of a filter suitable for an automatic but very fine and delicate filtration. The TEN in fact uses a continuous mesh belt, which as everyone knows, is perfect for the filtration of low contaminated materials (max 1%) and very small in size.

To complete the product range, in 2021 FIMIC also launched a FIMIC SPA, a screw pump dedicated to the world of recycling, as it avoids gears (sensitive to contaminations) and uses a single screw instead. In this way there’s no need for a protection prefilter, hence reducing dramatically maintenance & manpower costs.

But the research for innovation and passion for improvement didn’t stop there, FIMIC is constantly growing and developing innovative technologies and tailored solutions. This is how for 2023, the year of its 60th anniversary, the company developed two new products. At PLAST 2023, the new RAS 800 was officially presented. With a 30% more filtering surface than a RAS 700, allows to increase a 40% the production capacity being the biggest model of the RAS series. This new addition to the automatic self-cleaning melt filters models produced by FIMIC, thanks to its increased filtration surface (4775cm2) allows recyclers to reach a higher hourly production capacity with the efficiency and simplicity characteristic of FIMIC’s filtration technology.

RAS 800 not only has changed the technical aspects of its predecessors, like the filtration surface capacity and the new radial discharge valve, but also its aspect. The body of RAS is heavier than any other melt filter of this series, for this reason has two support arms to assist the mobile lid, a new characteristic that differentiates it from the classic RAS.

The second innovation that FIMIC has prepared for this 2023 to meet recycler’s need for a more efficient recycling process, was officially presented during Fakuma exhibition at FIMIC’s booth (; SPA 190, a bigger screw pump for high throughput needs.

The new SPA 190, the biggest screw pump in the market allows to increase the hourly production transporting the melted plastic material from the extruder to the filter without using any gears, that recyclers know are sensitive to contaminations and that usually get damaged very easily by the many different contaminants. Screw operated, SPA 190 is the ideal solution for those seeking to achieve the highest possible quality.
