Definitions:

  • Grid: is a unit of display in Evergreen. It looks like a table, and it's everywhere.
  • Angular(*ized, *ization) refers to the language of the new(er) web client interfaces the community has been working on converting interfaces from older types of Javascript (Dojo, AngularJS) to Angular.
  • Org Unit is a library location (consortium, system, branch, sub-branch).
  • YAOUS = "Yet Another Org Unit Setting," slang for Library Settings
  • Launchpad is the place where bug reports and feature reports live.

A Note on Dojo:

  • Dojo is an old framework that dates back to the days of XUL staff client. It is archaic, it doesn't play nice in a web context, and it is ugly. The Community has been working to update the remaining interfaces using Dojo. We are so very close.

What Makes 3.11 special?

  • Themes of 3.11:
  • Angular - porting features to a new framework (Dojo delenda est)
  • Accessibility - making the staff client friendlier for all users
  • Infrastructure - it’s always infrastructure week.

What Makes 3.12 special?

  • 44 individual contributors representing 16 organizations in 3 countries

  • Themes of 3.12:
  • Quality of life - end-user improvements addressing long-standing issues

Angular Linting Rules

  • Lint = a tool that automatically checks code
  • Lint rules = our chosen set of style guidelines
  • Helps developers avoid syntax and style errors and frees them to think about more creative parts of the code
  • Catches basic accessibility errors using WCAG 2.1 guidelines
  • Standardizes syntax across all the project files
  • Launchpad?

No pretty pictures, but makes developers happier & code cleaner!

Accessibility

What will make 3.13 so special?

  • YOU, PROBABLY
  • Seriously tho, check this list of features that are ready for test and / or merge: 3.13 Roadmap - so many good things there!?
  • Themes of 3.13:
  • Angular - with the last pieces of Acq and Circ Policies Admin pending … Dojo might finally be delenda?! (comment if you can conjugate that correctly)
  • Accessibility - oh yeah, we’re still doing this. There is still more to come.
  • Security - mo’ data, mo’ problems - BUT! pending features for Reports & SIP make give greater control over data sharing.
