New Event Announcement - Sustainability In Beauty | Is There A Future For Marketplaces?

Hi Friends,

It’s been a while since I wrote to you, it’s been a crazy start to the year with new clients, fundraising for my new business Valerie and developing the brand behind the scenes, but I am back and have lots to share with you:

  • A new in-person event - How consumers are engaging with sustainability in beauty
  • Navigating the shifting landscape of luxury fashion and retail, is there a future for marketplaces?
  • Wins for female fundraising
  • Why March is the time to set your goals instead of January
  • What advice I would give my younger self

How Consumers Are Engaging With Sustainability In Beauty

Join me and a panel of experts on Thursday 2nd May 4-6pm in partnership with On Repeat and JCDeceaux

All beauty brands need to integrate more sustainable practices but it can be a minefield on where to start. There is a fear of getting it wrong and being accused of greenwashing, the cost considerations and will customers put their money where their mouth is? They say they want to buy sustainably but does this happen in reality, we will explore the barriers and opportunities with brands and experts.

Join me and guest panellists to hear:

  • What customers say versus do when it comes to sustainability in beauty
  • How are the panellist's customers reacting to sustainability initiatives and what do customers want from brands
  • Does being more sustainable mean taking a hit on profit
  • How can sustainable initiatives increase customer engagement and loyalty
  • What to consider when integrating sustainable practices into your business to get clarity on the next steps to consider for your business

A Win for Female Founders and Investors

Did you see the news that the chancellor is set to reverse the increased wealth threshold for angel investors following widespread industry backlash, this is a really positive milestone for female founders and female investors. The definition of High Net Worth individuals will remain at £100,000 rather than increase to £170,000 which has a huge impact for female angel investors as many were between these thresholds. Many female angels invest in female-founded companies, that currently receive only 2.3% of funding compared to men.

As a founder fundraising myself with a mixed-gender founding team with Olly Johnson, I am not sure where we fall in a statistic like this. I hope through our success I can be part of a growing statistic. If you would like to know more about the raise for Valerie feel free to comment or DM to see the deck.

I still find many people don't know the benefits of the SEIS opportunities, which I was green to until a few years ago. Here is a great summary from Seedrs.

Spring Is In The Air

Spring has sprung, the days are lighter and there’s a renewed energy in the air. I would love to know how the first quarter of the year has gone for you. Hit reply and let me know.

I have been practising being more focused, with so many plates spinning it’s a necessity, I don't always get it right but I then realign. I can tell you it’s working!

Surrendering and accepting are sometimes required. Trusting that the work you’ve done leading up to this point will come to fruition. The seeds have been planted and nurtured over time and then one day they pop up and delight you. Very apt as we step into spring, but a clear strategy and vision are required to reap the rewards. Remember that a lull can often come before a breakthrough, it’s all about practising holding the void. I hope you can use this reminder to trust what you’re doing even if you can’t yet see the fruits of your labour.

I love spring as it’s a great time to forge ahead with new plans, it’s a great time to reflect on your 2024 vision and map out the next quarter's goals. We start to have more energy as the days get longer. If you haven’t hit the ground running this year don’t worry, there’s still plenty of time. I have free discovery calls if you’d like to chat… go on, you know you want to…

What Advice I Would Give My Younger Self

I answered some brilliant questions for Red Ant for IWD so I thought I would share the answers with you, it’s amazing what we discover when we take time to reflect.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given, in your personal or professional life?

Spend more time in visionary mode. I used to spend a lot of time in action mode, being busy all the time and this led to burnout. Creating time and space has allowed for creative thinking, problem-solving and developing new ideas for my business and those I work with. It’s a practice, as I often revert to filling my time being busy but slowing down really helps me speed up my bigger goals and vision.

If you could talk to yourself at age 18, what would you say?

Everything happens for a reason, often the lessons we have during difficult moments are pivotal for our future success and happiness. Now I look back on the challenges I’ve faced they have all sent me in a new direction that has been better than I could have imagined.

Don’t forget to reply and let me know how the first quarter has been for you.

Speak soon,
