A New Era in Mental Healthcare: Ginger Raises $35 Million in Series C Funding
Russell Glass
Founder, Author, Dad. Former CEO at Headspace, the world’s most comprehensive and accessible mental healthcare platform.
Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hosting Ginger’s summer BBQ and potluck at my house. I smoked a pork shoulder to make authentic North Carolina pulled pork, and we listened to Bob Marley and kicked back in the sun. As we were spending time together as a team, with new hires, significant others, friends, and even one of our office dogs, it occurred to me how far we’ve come in the past year. Our team has more than doubled in size to over 90 full-time employees located all across the U.S. Over 200,000 people now have access to Ginger through their employer benefits - from small companies with 200 people to huge Fortune 100 brands - and we anticipate doubling that number by the end of this year. Our service is now available across the U.S. and in 19 countries globally. Through our work with companies of all shapes and sizes, we’ve seen first-hand the ability of on-demand behavioral health to improve the lives of individuals around the world and better the health of our global workforce.
Today, we’re announcing our $35 million Series C funding round. This financing accelerates our ability to expand high-quality care—any time of day or night—to millions of people around the world. Ginger is reinventing how mental health care is delivered by offering people on-demand support, 24/7, 365 days a year. This latest round of funding was led by WP Global partners, City Light Capital, Nimble Ventures, and LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner. Our existing investors - Khosla Ventures, Kaiser Permanente Ventures, and Kapor Capital - also participated. We plan to use this funding to increase our investments in data science and clinical services to cost-effectively deliver more care to more people. Over the next 24 months, our team will also extend our unique care delivery model to members of health plans and other risk-bearing organizations.
This is a huge milestone for all members of our team who put in an incredible amount of effort and heart every day to achieve our mission of creating a world where mental health is never an obstacle. And we’re just getting started. I look forward to sharing our collective progress, together with our clients and partners, in building the world’s first virtual behavioral health system over the coming months and years.
