A new era?

Thank you to everyone who has congratulated me on my 2 year work anniversary at Pell Frischmann. It has certainly been an interesting couple of years and what a time to reflect upon what has been and what lies ahead. Looking forward, we face some huge unknowns; will the ‘Greta effect’ create a much needed and long lasting change in attitudes, what will life be like outside the EU, what of the future of large scale infrastructure projects in the UK such as HS2 and HE’s Smart Motorway programme and how are these, and many other things, affected by the rise of populism?  

We don’t know but there are clues. Presenting challenges as binary choices may point us in a certain direction but it won’t provide answers, whether it is leave vs remain or even good vs evil.

I believe that the answers lie within prioritisation and compromise. Long term solutions require long term thinking, even if this means sacrificing short term gains. And the vehicle for this is collaboration.

So what does this have to do with my last two years at Pell Frischmann? Absolutely everything. If you believe that collaboration is important, and I do, then it helps if it is embedded within your company’s operating model. I am fortunate that through our ownership model, we are part of a collaborative network of businesses, so collaborative behaviours are in our blood.

But this isn’t just a shameless promotion of Pell Frischmann’s philosophy. Looking forward in a world of uncertainty and challenges, as well as hope and opportunity, collaboration may be the best answer that we have to everything.
