With new energy comes new opportunities

As Australia transitions to net zero, its workforce will also change. The clean energy transformation means that there are new career opportunities aplenty with many pathways to enter the sector, from entry level jobs that require no formal training through to higher skilled roles that require a qualification.?

There will be job opportunities in STEM in the regions and in cities and the kinds of jobs on offer will vary: different locations are better suited to certain technologies. Around 32,000 more electricians will be needed in the next seven years, working with renewable energy.?

Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr Cathy Foley says: "Electricity is the technical pathway to addressing climate change. The energy transition to low emissions technologies is the most urgent challenge for societies globally."?

The Northern Territory Apprentice of the Year and a finalist for Apprentice of the Year at the Australian Training Awards, Jack Higgins (Certificate III - Electrotechnology Electrician) says:??

"The world is changing so much, and it feels good to know I'm in a career path that is in line with the global goal of achieving net-zero emissions."?

The National Careers Institute (NCI) has released Electrician: The Future is Clean Job Kit for high school students, undergraduates and graduates, careers advisors, teachers and parents. It tells everything you need to know about the New Energy Apprenticeships.?
