Our guest contributor this week is Rekha Tak Magon , who is a co-founder of Boundless Life , who cater for families of remote workers and digital nomads, by providing forward-thinking education, furnished homes, co-working space, and a wonderful community of like-minded families.
Let's dive in and learn more about Rekha's story and journey:
"Remote work has enabled us to live flexibly, work from anywhere, spend more quality time, and discover things together. It was back in 2015 that I started nomading with my family. But things haven’t always been easy, and it wasn’t long after that I realised one of the main challenges of moving around with my partner and the kids while working was to find suitable education solutions".
The Rising Trend of Nomad Families
What do you picture when you think of a digital nomad? Most people, when faced with the term, think of millennials backpacking through the world plugged into their laptops and moving from one beach bar to another.?
But things are not that black and white: the past few years upended workers' connections to the office and opened up the possibility of remote work to people who may not have considered the option before. Data shows that 80% of job seekers do not settle for where their company tells them to live - they want to choose. Numbers speak clearly - digital nomads are no longer the 20-something tech workers. They now include a much wider variety of human beings, including families.

Failing to recognise that only means missing out on a tremendous market slice: according to recent research, 70% of these anywhere workers have children and they take their family with them when moving around. Failing to recognise that only means missing out on a tremendous market slice.?
Parents who embrace a digital nomad lifestyle believe their children have much to gain from travelling.
From new languages, cuisines and cultures to important soft skills such as empathy, adaptability and an appetite for genuine adventure, children have a lot to learn from being on the road that they would not be able to experience in a classroom. Yet, giving a comprehensive education to kids while nomading can be a challenge.?
World Schooling - a New Way of Studying Abroad
Education is much more than studying notions in a book. Although that part is definitely important, there are other elements that concur with giving a full education to children and teens: social life, nature time, cultural awareness, playtime, new experiences and disconnection from technology.?

“The pandemic was a great opportunity for families to get a deeper insight into what their children's current education looks like through virtual school. I think now there's this huge market of people who are looking for a different way to live their own lives and are looking for a different way to educate their own children”, Rekha Magon, Co-Founder and Head of Education at Boundless Life.?
I had an amazing experience with Boundless Life in Sintra last summer (you can read all about it in my previous post here), and most of all my daughter has definitely expanded her horizons with the educational programs there.
While summer programs are the most common - aimed at families that are working and travelling for the six weeks of school vacation - Boundless Life also offers longer programs, called Boundless Education.

Their program is inspired by the Finnish system: experiential and project-based learning. The team behind it is extremely qualified:
"We were looking for a solution ourselves for how we wanted to live this life and myself personally; I didn't want my children or any child really to be on a screen all day. Our goal with Boundless Education is to revolutionise where, when and how children learn, so that families can move seamlessly from one destination to the next: we create meaningful learning experiences that inspire kids to question, create & innovate according to their own personal interests.”

In closing: For myself and my family nomading is not just a temporary experiment. We chose this lifestyle and it is now part of our core values. The reasons to consider becoming a nomad family are many, and so are the challenges. But being prepared is the key to making sure the pitfalls do not overcome the benefits of such a choice.?
So when it comes to travelling abroad while working, I always consider what options my daughter has for her education and socialization.?
