The New DNCR Rule in the UAE: Protecting Consumers, Guiding Businesses
August 2023, has significant implications for both consumers and businesses. Etisalat, a leading telecom provider, has outlined the key aspects of this new regulation.
?A Robust Barrier for Consumer Privacy
The DNCR is designed to shield consumers from unsolicited telemarketing, spam, and potentially harmful calls. Individuals can register their numbers on this platform, and telemarketers are strictly prohibited from contacting these registered numbers, regardless of any prior consent.
?What It Means for Telemarketing Companies?
This rule comes with teeth; failure to comply will lead to telecom services revocation and further legal ramifications. But rather than viewing this as a hindrance, companies should see it as an opportunity to innovate and find non-intrusive ways to reach potential customers.
?Key Takeaways for Businesses
?1.???? Prior Consent is No Longer Valid: Even if consumers had previously given permission to be contacted, if their numbers are now on the DNCR, they are off-limits.
?2.???? Check Before You Dial: Before initiating any promotional calls, businesses must cross-reference their contact list against the DNCR, accessible via the Business Online Portal.
?3.???? Global Compliance: If your telemarketing operations are based outside the UAE but target UAE residents, compliance with the DNCR is mandatory.

DNCR and Consumer Control
Consumers have multiple avenues for registering their numbers and can raise complaints if they continue to receive promotional calls post-registration. The DNCR's aim is not just to block calls but also to create a safer, more secure communication environment for individuals.
?
The DNCR initiative is a well-balanced approach that respects consumer privacy while prompting businesses to rethink their telemarketing strategies. While safeguarding consumers, it opens up avenues for businesses to innovate and engage customers in more respectful and effective ways.

1 年Another question, I run an online marketing campaign which means I am spending money on generating that lead and then a customer signs up with me. After that he requests to be called. But his/her number is in DNCR. So what should the company do in that case!!

1 年Yes, it’s good , but a client gives us consent to be called but later put his number in dncr?? It’s a tricky one. And how can a telemarketing company survive with such laws, can you shed some light on it!!
