New Divorce Mediation Book

It is exciting to announce the publication of "How to Mediate a Divorce". Though the book is published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia, the concepts, strategies and ideas are applicable to mediation of a divorce almost anywhere. It is a basic overview of the process, the timing, the potential benefits, the logistics and many concepts that hopefully will enhance understanding of the process and increase the ability of divorce lawyers to help their clients through it.
As with any published work, the author learned much from the history of family law mediation and from views of the many people experienced in divorce mediation. While a few experts are actually quoted, a “thank you” is due to the many, many mediators and lawyers with whom the author has mediated divorce cases over almost thirty years of practice. As anyone who has mediated a challenging divorce case knows, you often learn much more than expected at mediation. During breaks or even while the other side is meeting privately with the mediator, clients, lawyers and sometimes even staff share stories about their lives and experiences that are the products of this forced intimate time together. Participants learn how others grew up, how relationships formed (and unraveled), how fortunes were made (and lost), and the many different ways human beings deal with crises. Of course, almost no one enjoys going through a divorce. But, being able to connect with people and help them through the mediation process, where they continue to control their own destiny (as opposed to leaving decisions up to a judge), can be rewarding to a divorce lawyer. The better the divorce lawyer can do it, the better the outcome for those going through the painful process of divorce.
The author and publisher hope that those of you who read "How to Mediate a Divorce" will take away information that will help in their next divorce mediation.
